Development Activities

The Development & Planning section of Nadia Collectorate besides preparing Annual Plan of the district with the approval of District Planning Committee implements Members of Parliaments Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS), Bidhayak Elaka Unnayan Prakalpa (BEUP) and Border Area Development Programme (BADP) through different executive agencies

MPLADS was launched by the Government of India in the year 1993. Under the scheme each M.P. has the choice to suggest District Magistrate to undertake different types of development activities such as Rural Electrification, Bridge, Road, School Building etc. to the tune of Rs. 2.00 crore per year in his constituency. This office deals with the MPLADS fund in respect of 11-Krishnagar and 12- Nabadwip Parliamentary Constituency and part of 9 Murshidabad Parliamentary Constituency and also executes schemes recommended by Rajya Sabha M.Ps. <more>

BEUP a State Government Programme came in operation in the year 2000 with the aim of formulating development schemes of Rs. 15.00 lakh on the recommendation of each M.L.A. within the constituent area of the concerned M.L.A. Scheme of Minor Irrigation, Embankment Protection, Roads, Bridges Drinking Water, Health, Education, Rural Electrification etc. are being undertaken under this Programme. This district receives fund in respect of 15 Assembly Constituencies. <more>

BADP is a 100% Centrally Financed Programme. The fund is provided to the State as a special central assistance for execution of approved schemes in border areas. Seven Blocks of this district have international border with Bangladesh. Schemes under the programme are taken up keeping in view the factors such as accessibility, improvement of communication facilities, Supply of Drinking Water, Renovation of Schools, Construction of Community Hall, Construction of Public Library etc. <more>

All the 17 (seventeen) Blocks of this District have arsenic problems more or less. PHE Department tested 10% of Public Tube-Wells and arranged for sinking of arsenic-free Tube-Well in all populated villages in collaboration with Nadia Zilla Parishad.

UNICEF is providing financial assistance for testing all Public Tube-Wells through C.S.M.E. and B.P.C. Institute.

Testing of Public Tube-Wells of Tehatta-I & II Block have been completed by C.S.M.E. They are now working at Kaliganj and Nakashipara  block areas.

B.P.C. Institute of Technology is testing Public Tube-Wells of Hanskhali and Chapra block areas.

Steps are being taken for testing of all Tube-Wells of this district.

Mid-day-Meal is a 100% Central Government Programme for providing meal (food-grains) to the children reading in class I to V. Education Department is the nodal department for implementation of the programme in the State. The Mid-day-Meal Programme is implemented through B.D.Os and Chairman of Municipalities. <more>
