Development of physical infrastructure cannot usher in overall development at the desired level if the social infrastructure is not simultaneously developed. Education, Health, Social security, public entertainment etc. have to be developed to ensure proper social infrastructure

School

Nadia district has 2,668 Primary Schools located within 36 Circles. With the increase of students over time, dearth of classroom is being noticed in some schools.

The district has come under the total sanitary campaign and the Government has decided to undertake activities for regular medical check-up of the students of the primary schools with the assistance of teachers, panchayat functionaries etc.

Sishu Siksha Karmasuchi (SSK)

SSK was taken up from 1999-2000 in all the 17 blocks of the district. All-out efforts have been taken to indentify the areas within all the Gram Panchayats for opening of SSK centres to provide education to the children of  the weaker sections of the society. Upto June 2002, 561 SSK centres have been put into operation. It is hoped that by 2003-04 all the Gram Panchayats will be provided with SSK

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA)

SSA started in 2001 in the district. SSA promises to change the face of the elementary education sector of the country by providing useful and quality elementary education to all the children in the age group of 6-14 years by 2010. In this district there are 45,306 out-of-school children in the age group of 6-10 years and 1,67,945 in the age group of 10-14 years. The District SSA Committee has set a target for total enrolment of these out-of-school children by 2003-04.

In this district there are 135 Higher Secondary Schools where different streams are taught with facilities of modern education. 21 Secondary Schools are expected to be upgraded to Higher Secondary level during 2002-03. Besides, 92 Junior High Schools are running in different towns and villages of the district. In addition, there are 9 High Madrasahs and 5 Junior High Madrasahs.
